This upright clump-forming AMSONIA produces beautifully delicate star-shaped light blue flowers above long spear-shaped green leaves; the contrast between the blue of the flower and the cheerful green from the foliage is very gentle.

Flowering from the end of Spring through to late Summer, as Autumn approaches the leaves turn yellow which is very striking and prolongs the season’s interest.  You could use A. elliptica with many different plants, for example, Chaerophyllum hirsutum ‘Roseum’ and Vebena bonariensis, both of which will be gentle contrasts with this fine plant.  Easy to grow and a strong performing border plant, to get the best from it, site it in full sun or part shade and a moist, well drained soil.
